For those with basic French (perhaps a little rusty!). Whilst making further progress with the language, we regularly revise points which need extra practice. We use 'Facon de Parler' Book 2 preferably the 4th edition ISBN 978-0-340-94022-8 but if unavailable 5th edition is acceptable . We are currently at unit 11. Please note, this class will start on Wednesday 19 September.

L013 Understanding and Speaking French - Mary O'Meara

NEW CLASS! This class is suitable for anyone with 4 years French or more (even if 50 years ago). We will practise speaking in pairs and will improve comprehension by using a wide variety of material from Mr Men books in French to contemporary articles. There will normally be a short grammar section each week. Please note this class will start one week early on 18 September but there will be no class on 13 November.

Simple role-plays, conversation and grammar. Our course book is 'Facon de Parler' Book 2 (ISBN 978-1-4441-8122-7) and we shall begin this year at chapter 12. We also use McGraw Hill Practice Makes Perfect 'Complete French Grammar'. We have a fun morning with a lively group of people. Some flexibility over class dates will be necessary now and again.

We will assume no previous knowledge of German though those who wish to repeat the course are welcome. Over two years we are aiming at level A1.

A basic knowledge of the structure of the German language is assumed for this group, although revision of grammatical points is given when required. The focus of activities is in using German over a range of practical situations and in increasing vocabulary. Alongside the guidance of the tutor, members of the group contribute actively to the functioning of the class.

We are a small group, who wish to maintain and improve knowledge of the language through conversation and interaction with others. We prepare work for discussion on a multitude of fascinating topics, study Italian books and films. Grammar is never neglected. New members are very welcome.

An appreciation of the Russian language through its literature. Knowledge of English grammar is helpful! Beginners in Russian can be accommodated. New students should contact the Tutor on 716307 to establish their ability level. The class will be held in students' homes on rotation.
L050 Making the most of Spanish - Christine Whiddon

We will be discussing current affairs and using role play situations. To learn about the culture, history and geography, we use Hugo's Advanced Spanish Course. Plenty of revision of grammar is included. This year we will be aimimg to expand our vocabulary and use of the subjunctive. Conversation will cover at least half of the class and we will be reading 'Stories from Latin America'.

This class is suitable for students with two or three years of studying Spanish. In class we share 'noticias' and read 'Stories from Spain'. We will be revising grammar in every lesson!

We are now using the text book 'Classic Spanish Stories and Plays'. Revision of grammar covered in the last five years is included. Conversation and role plays make the most of students' spoken Spanish.

Tutor led group for those who wish to maintain and improve conversational Spanish. Home study, which normally covers a specific area of grammar and translation, is encouraged. Denise will act as group co-ordinator.
