M032    Ukulele Fun and Sing-along - William Wood

Friends Meeting House
Wednesday - 1.30 - 3.30

NEW COURSE! The intention is to have a mixed class of ukulele players, from beginners to the more experienced. The beginners will be taught the basics by the tutor and experienced players. It will not be necessary to read music. The emphasis will be on enjoying playing, singing and learning new songs, whilst having fun doing so. After all, the ukulele is a fun instrument. It is expected that players will provide their own ukulele and music stand. Advice can be given to beginners wishing to purchase a ukulele.

M040    Exploring Musical Theatre - Arthur Pritchard

Jubilee Centre
Wednesday - 2.00 - 4.00

NEW COURSE! This course will offer participants opportunities to investigate the remarkable diversity of musical theatre on stage and screen. While the history and development of the musical and its various genres will form a major part of the course, we will also explore other material, such as opera and contemporary work in music theatre. We will watch, discuss and analyse recorded performance, explore contexts, ask questions.

However, the course will also be about doing, not just observing and discussing. Come prepared to sing but rhythmic speech will do, to tell stories, to act and dance (however slowly), to work in groups and create moments of magic. No special skills required - a willingness to have a go is essential. An in-house Christmas show will form the culmination of term one activities and term two will conclude with another mini-spectacular, which may have something to do with Yorkshire.
Let's do it. What good is sitting alone in your room?
