About Us

The Huddersfield and District U3A is not an academic institution, but a society of people sharing the similar aims of maintaining and improving the quality of life by keeping fulfilled and active in later life.

It was founded in 1984 by Edith Bentley MBE MA, and has been given help and encouragement by Kirklees Council, Kirklees Cultural Services, the Huddersfield Examiner, Huddersfield Radio, several High Schools and numerous local people.

It is a Registered Charity but receives no grants from the Local Authority. Huddersfield & District U3A is a registered charity that is financially self supporting.  There are now over 1000 active, subscribing members.

Members are reminded that if visiting the office it is advisable to telephone first to make sure there will be someone there to deal with your problem. Insurance

The Management Committee would like to clarify the question of Insurance cover for U3A Members. All members are covered by our Third Party Public Liability Policy and there is no distinction with regard to age. We DO NOT have a Policy which gives our members personal accident cover as this would have to include all members and would be prohibitively expensive. All members are requested to provide their own personal accident cover if they think it necessary.

Every person taking part in U3A activities has a duty to keep themselves safe by co-operating with safety measures, not putting themselves or others in danger, and ensuring that appropriate clothes are worn depending on the activity undertaken.
