Tuesday Circular Walks

Tuesdays 10am
Circular walks take place on 1st and 3rd Tuesdays in the month, mostly in the Holme and Colne Valleys and nearby areas. We use cars to get to the start and all walks are cross country, usually 5-6 miles in length. We take a packed lunch and occasionally visit a cafe afterwards.
We are a small group who offer a warm welcome to new members capable of walking the distance and who might eventually be willing to lead a walk (there will never be any obligation). Occasional attendance is fine, there is no expectation for you to attend all walks. Contact Richard Huddleston on 07884976274 or richardehuddleston@gmail.com..

Alternate Fridays
Are you just getting back on your feet again after joint replacement ? Have you had other medical conditions that have temporarily affected your mobility? Do you find that the group you currently walk with seem to be walking too far and too fast for you these days, but you don’t want to give up the exercise and the social companionship completely? Read on. We may be just what you need.We are a small group of recovering or inexperienced walkers who have gradually come together. Some of us may hope to regain enough of our former mobility to rejoin the walking group and the friends we have had to temporarily abandon. Others may feel it is time to slow down a bit and are happy to remain part of this friendly new group. So far we have based ourselves in Greenhead Park, Huddersfield, as a starting point, but have begun to explore the surrounding areas of Huddersfield, appropriate to the capabilities and confidence of our members. We walk on the first and third Fridays of the month in most except potentially dangerous weather conditions. We start in front of the conservatory cafe in Greenhead Park at 11 am, and so far have usually managed to finish there for optional refreshment as well. For further information or to signal your intention to join, please phone Joan Shaw. 07421 509127.

Fridays
We walk every Friday for 8-12 miles between 10.00 and 4.00pm. We cover varied terrain, including moorland during all types of weather. Therefore good clothing and footwear are essential, also a realistic level of fitness to complete such walks. Most walks are within the Kirklees and Calderdale districts, but occasionally we go further afield and we car share whenever it is suitable. We are an informal, relaxed group and there is not an expectation that members will attend all the walks. Dogs are welcome as long as they are kept under control and put on a lead amongst livestock. Members take turns to lead but we don’t expect new members to lead straightaway and help is always available to plan walks. We take packed lunches, and occasionally we go to a cafe at the end of the walk. If you are interested in joining, and would like a chat about the group please ring Alan Taylor on 01484 538667 or 07544 594136.

Wednesdays
We are a friendly group who enjoy cycling and the opportunity to visit different places and see different things. We ride on Wednesdays, (weather permitting). The majority of our rides are car assisted. We use cars to get to the starting place, which means that we can explore a larger area. We use quiet roads, greenways and occasional tracks. Main roads and steep hills are avoided where possible but the advent of electric bikes has made hills less of an issue. Electric bikes still require effort (they don’t move unless you pedal), but they are much more fun. We have a lunch stop at a cafe or similar establishment with maybe a coffee stop or an ice cream stop on the way home. Rides are usually about 50k (30 miles). We have also had some lovely residential weekends. You will need a bike suitable for road, canal towpaths etc. a spare inner tube and pump, yes we do get punctures. For further information, contact John Sutcliffe or Joan Burnip on mob no. 07979 691232.
